Place Jourdan in Brussels is one of our favourite spots in this city. We found it because Hotel Sofitel, where we used to stay during our Brussels trips, is located there.

You will find here the most famous chippy of the town, Maison Antoine, as well as Boulangerie Au Vatel, a bakery where they sell pastries to die for. On Sunday morning there is a small but very nice farmer’s market where you can buy every local food your heart desires.

On top a lot of inviting restaurants of varying cuisines line the square, just as L’esprit de Sel.

It’s a typical bistro style restaurant jazzed up with big Murano glass chandeliers. The staff is really friendly and attentive with a smart Belgian charm. On the menu you will find mainly Belgian specialities and the quality of the food is really good. A really positive aspect is the fact that wine prices are pretty moderate. So, if you are looking for a nice evening with good food, L’esprit de Sel would be a good choice.

My hubby went for the Scampis «L’esprit de Sel Brasserie» accompanied by a really good and light sauce (even it might not look like that on the picture :) ) as a starter and a simple but delicious sole for the main course.

Croquettes aux crevettes grises, a very typical Belgian dish, was my first choice, followed by mussels traditionally served with French fries.

To complete the perfect evening we enjoyed a bottle of Chablis Fourchaume Premier Cru 2001 and just had to walk across the street to tumble into our cosy bed.
